The car had acosmetic restoration about 4 years ago by a local British car specialist shop atan expense of over ten thousand dollars which included fresh paint, chrome,seals and interior. The owner passed away shortly after buying the car and hiswidow had the shop finish the car to how her husband had wanted it. ThisSpitfire has had very little miles put on it since it was finished, nothing morethan taking it to local shows and now the widow is ready to let someone newenjoy it. The Body is straight and rust free with good door and bonnet fitment,the paint on the hard top has three scratches measuring around 4 inches inlength. The bright work is very nice and shiny with no pitting and was eitherreplaced or re-chromed. The glass is very good with no cracks or bulls eyes andthe lenses are new appearing, the window seals are new. The interior has new seatupholstery and foam, new panels including the doors, new carpet, new dash topand new walnut dashboard. The gauges all work but the rev counter is erratic. Theoil pressure and ignition warning lights function correctly going out as soon asthe engine fires up and all the lights and signals work. the clutch is light and the transmission shifts well. U carbs have been overhauled as well as the brake and clutch mastercylinder. I am selling this Spitfire for t.

The car has a build date of late 1966, near the end of the TR 4A production, giving it the original wood dash option (replaced with a gorgeous dark teak) and improved rear end as used in the later TR250 and TR6 models. I purchased this car from the previous owner 12 years ago and have driven it only a handful of times, so it has seen very light use and only in the summer by a long time Triumph owner who garaged it from purchase. The most desirable, rarest and easiest to drive, maintain and enjoy of all the TR Sports Cars, with the glorious acclaimed styling of Giovanni Michelotti. This car is enjoyable to drive and has always been my favorite model Triumph. It has an older restoration that was done to a driver quality standard by the previous owner about 15 years ago. At the time, all the window rubber front, side and rear where replaced with all new original correct type chrome finishing strips so often missing on these cars. A new windscreen (windshield) was fitted at the same time. He replaced the rocker panels, due to some corrosion (even on a California car) and the interior. The console surround was redone, a new convertible boot cover and a convertible top where replaced as well. Car shows 48000 miles, but who knows if that is correct. The body is straightexcept for one small dent in the driver's door. Paint andstripes are new. Interior has been redone with carpet, door panels and seatcovers from Newton Commercial in England, which is generally regarded as thepremier interior supplier for these cars. Upper dash pad has no cracks, andappears as new. Dashboard has been replaced with a darker wood than original,and looks decent, but finish could look a bit better. The Florida sun has notbeen kind to it. A Pioneer CD/tuner also lives in the dash, with speakers intheir own enclosure behind the seats so nothing was cut up on the caritself. Engine starts up and purrs. The weak link in these engines, the thrustwashers on the rear main bearing, needed attention when I bought the car. Thanksto the great guys at custom thrust washers.com, new tough alloy washers weremade and installed. Also, the rear main bearing cap was machined to hold anupper and lower washer to create a full 360 degree bearing surface, instead ofthe 180 good old British Leyland engineered. The car doesn't overheat,stall or anything else. The clutch, pressure plate and throw outbearing were also replaced about 500 miles ago. Everything shifts as new. The car stops straight.
